6th - 8th Grade Math, Academic Support Class
The purpose of this class to meet the goals and objectives on your child’s IEP as well as expose them to grade level math standards. The focus will be on basic skills and applying those skills to solve advanced operations. Many of the problems will be multi step word problems that require multiple operations to solve.
Calculators
Students will be taught how to use a basic calculator in class. They are encouraged to use a calculator for most class assignments. If an assignment needs to be completed without a calculator, it will say, “Do Not Use Calculator” across the top of the page.
Class and Homework Assignments
Students will be given instruction in class, followed by guided and independent practice. If they do not finish the assignment in class, they will need to finish it for homework. All assignments are due the next day. Please check your child’s agenda each night and verify that they have completed the assignment to the best of their ability.
Missing Work and Absences
Students are responsible for all assignments and should find out what they are missing upon returning from an absence. I will accept late assignments but I encourage the assignments to be turned in close to the due date to prevent accumulation and the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Grading Policy (scaled/weighted)
Class Work ...........................................................................................................60%
Quizzes.................................................................................................................40%
